Scapegoat - Dallas Rae
Size: 110 x 140 cm
Medium: Oil on canvas
Year: 2023
Artwork Statement: Feral goats now occur throughout most of NSW, with about 2.8 million
estimated to be in Australia. They have a major effect on the Australian landscape through
overgrazing and soil damage. They foul waterholes and introduce weeds through seeds carried
in their dung and on their coats. This artwork, painted using brushes made from the bark of native trees
(if you look cloely you will be able to see pieces of bark in the oil paint), shows some of the
many invasive plants that now populate the wild spaces in the Australian bush.
