The BFG Team
We’re a small team, driven by ambition and cups of hope. At Black Fig, we believe that if we don’t recognise and support the skill, beauty, and sheer human effort that goes into making art, we risk losing it - just as whole generations now struggle to read Shakespeare.
That’s why we juggle it all: curation, exhibitions, social media, community programming, and the occasional missing napkin. Some days you’ll find us hanging a new show, other days deep in conversation with an artist, or writing the captions that connect it all back to you.
As we grow, we’ll be looking for more curators, collaborators, and community-minded humans to join in. For now, it’s a lot of heart, a touch of chaos, and two very spoiled dogs keeping us on our toes.
Kalie Burgis
Gallerist & Curator
With a background in Commercial Interior Design and a current Practising Artist, Kalie has an eye for talent and a passion for storytelling through art and cultivating space that tells a person's story. Artist wrangler, exhibition coordinator, marketing brain, inbox juggler, and community translator… Kalie is the person behind just about everything that keeps Black Fig ticking. She’s the one setting the vibe, ordering the wine, writing most of the captions, dodging the reels, and remembering (most of the time) the napkins.
Dr Ruth Park
Gallery Assistant, Artist, & that's right, Dr.
Ruth brings both experience and elegance to Black Fig Gallery. With a Doctor of Philosophy in Fine Art and over 30 years of teaching ceramics and sculpture, she has shaped countless artists in the Northern Rivers and beyond.
But don’t be fooled into thinking Ruth is all academia. Known for her fabulous sense of style, she’s our very own “Devil Wears Prada” - but approachable. Ruth’s presence is as inspiring as her art, combining wisdom, wit, and just the right amount of flair.
Jemima Patch-Taylor
Volunteer Gallery & Social Media Assistant
Jemima is both the friendly face you’ll meet at the gallery and the creative mind behind many of our social posts. A practicing artist for over five years with a Bachelor of Art and Design, she brings a sharp eye for visuals and a knack for knowing what resonates online.
If you’ve stopped scrolling to watch one of our reels or found yourself hooked on a post, Jemima probably had a hand in it. She helps us translate the spirit of Black Fig into the kind of content that connects on the socials.
Kalie Burgis
Director & Everything Else
f you’ve emailed the gallery, popped into an opening, or followed along online - chances are you’ve already met her voice and her energy. She is our Artist liaison, enthusiastic inbox juggler, and unofficial emotional support human for anyone submitting an Arts CV and a dream.
Harriet 'Harry'
Head of Security
Anxiously attached but professionally grounded. Keeps a close eye on the door, Kalie, and any snacks within reach. She takes her role as gallery guardian very seriously - unless she’s at home, which is often.
Rosie 'Posey'
Vibes Coordinator
Playful, curious, and absolutely not above bribery. Rosie brings boundless enthusiasm, sudden zoomies, and a healthy disregard for quiet contemplation. She's rarely at the gallery, but when she is, she makes sure everyone knows it.
